Everything you need to know about the social scholarship – academic year 2023/2024 [UPDATED]

Category: Social scholarship

[Start, the most important basic information]

What is most important is to submit an application. The earlier you apply, the better position you will be in. Submitting your application by the 18th of the month guarantees that you will be able to apply for the scholarship for that month as well. Example:

  • student X applied on October 1 – he is entitled to apply for the scholarship for that month as well,
  • student Y applied on October 19 – this person is not entitled to receive a scholarship for October.

NOTE: In November 2023, February, May and August 2024, the application deadline is the 20th of the month. Example:

  • student X applied on February 1 – he is entitled to apply for a scholarship for this month as well,
  • student Y applied on February 21 – this person is not entitled to receive the scholarship for February.

To apply for a social scholarship, you must submit: Income statement 2022 and Application for benefit for winter/summer semester of academic year 2023/2024. The most important is the date of submitting the application, but without submitting the declaration, you cannot complete it!

Applications and statements are submitted via USOSweb. This means that the complete procedure is done online.

Remember to use your UW domain email when contacting our office.

[How do I find out if I am qualified for a social grant?]

In the case of Poles, the most common reason for refusing to grant a social scholarship is exceeding the limit of semesters during which a given person studies:

  • in the case of first-cycle studies, it is not allowed to study longer than 9 semesters;
  • in the case of second-cycle studies, it is not allowed to study longer than 7 semesters;
  • in total, it is not allowed to study longer than 12 semesters.

Each semester started by the student counts towards this number.

In addition, you cannot get benefits:

  • in first-cycle studies, if the student already has a bachelor’s degree or higher;
  • in second-cycle studies, if the student already has a master’s degree.

Probably some of you ask yourself this question when completing the application for a social scholarship. The documents are used to confirm the reported income. When thinking about what documents are needed, think about the income you received in 2022 and 2023

[How about an increased social scholarship?]

When applying for a social scholarship, you can apply for it as:

  • social scholarship,
  • social scholarship in an increased amount.

Beginning with the 2022/2023 academic year, we have expanded the catalog of conditions entitling an applicant to apply for a social scholarship at an increased rate to include the following:

  • the applicant is dependent on parents, legal guardians or actual guardians regularly and currently benefiting from one or more of the following benefits: permanent allowance, special purpose allowance, periodic allowance, special purpose allowance, nursing allowance or child-rearing benefit, or is himself regularly and currently benefiting from them,
  • the student’s daily commute from his permanent place of residence makes it difficult or impossible for him to study.

Remember to have documents that confirm the premise, such as a certificate of receipt of the benefit in question, an application for a place in a dormitory or a certificate confirming the address of residence.
